‘Best Improved Destination Award’ for Glasgow

The “Best Improved Destination” Award was awarded to Glasgow Convention Bureau as the city received recognition for sustainable business tourism by the Global Destination Sustainability Index. With a score of 94%, Glasgow received the award at the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Congress in Prague.
The GDS-Index promotes the sustainable growth of international meeting destinations and responsible business tourism best practices. It evaluates the performance of cities on a city’s environmental strategy and infrastructure, its social sustainability performance, the support provided by the industry supplier and the strategy and initiatives of the convention bureau.
Guy Bigwood, Director of the GDS-Index, said: “Glasgow demonstrated that change can happen quickly if the Destination Management Organisation takes an active lead in bringing stakeholders together to collaborate and fast-track environmental, social and economic action in their cities.”
