Melbourne Hits No 1 in Sustainability in Asia-Pacific

Melbourne has been ranked the number 1 sustainable city in the Asia-Pacific region – and number 13 in the world overall – for business events in the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS-Index).

The city environmental strategy and infrastructure, city social sustainability performance, industry supplier support and MCB strategy and initiatives were all factors on which Melbourne and Melbourne Convention Bureau’s (MCB) sustainability performance was evaluated, scoring 75% in social sustainability and 74% in convention bureau performance.

Melbourne’s focus is on proposing and implementing collaborative sustainability initiatives for the business events sector. Associations can enjoy easily accessible hotel inventory and convention facilities using public transport, a program that supports restaurants with a commitment to sustainability, public bike sharing facilities, subsidised public transport for major conventions as well as a green environment.
