The city of Seoul and the Seoul Tourism Organization collaborated with the Korean Society of Gastroenterology to successfully win the bid to host the World Congress of Gastroenterology “WCOG” 2023 in Seoul. WCOG, to be hosted in Korea for the first time, is an international symposium with roughly 5,000 gastroenterology experts participating from around the world. The conference will be held at COEX for five days from November 15th to 19th 2023.
Donggi Lee, Chairman of the WCOG bid committee (Professor of Gastroenterology, College of Medicine at Yonsei University), said, “The Korean Society of Gastroenterology will host WCOG 2023 in conjunction with the Korea Digestive Disease Week, KDDW. KDDW is an annual symposium supported by Korean gastroenterology and other related associations. By doing so, we expect to strengthen the networking among gastroenterology associations as well as cementing Korea’s leading position in the US, Europe as well as in Asia.”
Yongtae Ju, Director of the Tourism and Sports Bureau of Seoul City, stated, “According to the World Gastroenterology Organization, Seoul was chosen unanimously based on its locational condition.” He also added, “For a successful WCOG 2023, we will provide financial support for international conferences and integrated visitor services. This, in turn, will help increase the attractiveness and satisfaction of Seoul as a MICE city for attendees of international events in 2023.”
