Since 2019, Greater Lyon has been part of the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS-Index), a performance improvement programme aimed at making the business tourism and events industry more sustainable. With a score of 55%, Lyon is the leading French city among those listed. This is in large part due to the achievement of ISO 20121 certification by the Convention Centre and Eurexpo at the end of 2019, as well as ACA 3+ (Airport Carbon Accreditation) certification by Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport, as these are major players in the sector.
Last year, Lyon was named ‘European Capital of Smart Tourism 2019’ by the European Union. Beyond the recognition of innovations in the area of sustainable tourism, this title has made it possible to further raise awareness of the topic among local partners and continue to develop a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) approach. It is a strong signal that collectively engages ONLYLYON Tourism and Conventions and business tourism professionals in the constant improvement of sustainable development performance.
