During ibtm Barcelona Uganda had a strong presence as a business events destination.
A team of experts representing the meetings industry of the country explained the recent developments which allow for bigger and better business events.
An expanded and upgraded airport (second phase of expansion due to be completed in 2024) can now connect Kampala directly with many European cities.
Accommodation in the country is up to speed with more incoming visitors as hotels of all prices are already in place with many more 5-star chain hotels setting up shop soon (many with big conference centres).
In 2020 Uganda was ranked 6th in Africa for business events, which reflects the progress of the industry.
The pride and joy of this development is the new conference centre inside the Commonwealth Speke Resort Munonyo. Due for completion next year, the conference centre will accommodate up to 5,000 people in 13 halls of different sizes, 12 supporting rooms and 22,000 sqm of pillar-free space. Its first event will be the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which will welcome 126 heads of State to the country.
