BESydney Celebrates Major Wins in Health and Life Sciences

31st October 2024

Sydney has been selected to host two major healthcare events: the 59th Congress of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) in 2027 and the 39th World Congress of Audiology (WCA) in 2030.

Together, these events are expected to draw over 3,000 specialists to the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), generating an estimated AUD $13.6 million in direct economic impact.

The SIOP Congress will bring global paediatric oncology experts to Australia, home to the pioneering ZERO Childhood Cancer Program and the soon-to-launch Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre.

Dr Richard Mitchell, Director of Kids Cancer Centre, said: “Hosting the annual World Congress in Sydney will allow us to build new collaborations with the international community, leading to more therapies and better outcomes for Australian children with cancer.”

“We are incredibly proud that Sydney will be hosting these business events of immense value and significance for the global healthcare community. They are powerful vehicles for change that impact the lives of many globally”, said BESydney CEO Lyn Lewis-Smith, while Tourism Australia’s Managing Director, Phillipa Harrison, agreed: “Given the importance of business events to our tourism sector, we are so pleased to be supporting this latest event win for Sydney through Tourism Australia’s Business Events Bid Fund program.”
