The Cairns Convention Centre has been shortlisted for a People Management Award at the Cairns Business Excellence Awards.
This recognition highlights the venue’s efforts in fostering an inclusive workplace and accessible environment.
Known for its sustainability initiatives, including a locally sourced eco-friendly menu, the Centre is equally committed to accessibility.
With comprehensive wheelchair access, braille signage, and hearing augmentation systems, the venue ensures all guests and employees have equal opportunities and experiences.
In partnership with the Tourism Taster program, the Centre promotes disability inclusion in the workforce, with several individuals with disabilities placed in roles across various departments.
Additionally, the recently launched Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program allows guests to discreetly signal their need for assistance, supported by trained staff.
Janet Hamilton, General Manager, said: “Our commitment to inclusivity drives our people management strategies, ensuring our practices are accessible and supportive. This dedication not only enhances our workplace but also sets a standard for others, promoting disability inclusion and equal opportunities for all.”
