Manchester Steps onto the G20 Stage

13th October 2026

Manchester will host the 2027 G20 Leaders’ Summit, placing the city at the centre of global economic diplomacy on 27 and 28 November 2027.

Heads of government from the world’s major economies will meet at Manchester Central, alongside thousands of diplomats and representatives from international organisations. The summit will be the centrepiece of the UK’s year-long G20 presidency, with further meetings planned across the country.

The G20 brings together 19 major economies, the European Union and the African Union. Collectively, its members represent around 85% of global GDP, 75% of international trade and two-thirds of the world’s population.

The UK Government intends to use its presidency to promote global growth and economic stability, with artificial intelligence also expected to feature prominently. It will be the first G20 Leaders’ Summit hosted by the UK since London in 2009, when governments coordinated their response to the global financial crisis.

Bev Craig, Mayor of Greater Manchester, said the city region was ready to welcome the world. “With the spotlight on us, we look forward to delivering a summit that will help boost growth and bring real benefits,” she said.

For Manchester, the win carries significance beyond the two-day meeting. Hosting one of the world’s most politically and operationally complex events will showcase its convention infrastructure, hospitality sector and capacity to manage high-level international gatherings.

It will also give the city a global platform for its strengths in innovation, advanced industry and technology, while creating opportunities to convert worldwide attention into future investment, events and partnerships.
