The Net Zero Carbon Events initiative has marked its fifth anniversary by outlining a new phase focused on turning industry guidance into practical action.
Presented at IMEX America, the plans follow the appointment of Johanna Fuhlendorf as Programme Director in June. NZCE is now reviewing its strategy and governance to reflect changing legislation and the needs of a membership that has more than tripled since the initiative launched in 2021.
Having established a shared framework for decarbonising events, NZCE will expand its implementation support through regular updates, free quarterly webinars and step-by-step guidance. The first training programme will focus on venues before extending to other parts of the events value chain.
“Members can expect increased engagement,” said Fuhlendorf, highlighting the initiative’s move towards more accessible training and practical resources.
James Rees, President of the Joint Meetings Industry Council, said the anniversary offered an opportunity to reassess NZCE’s direction and make use of its increased capacity.
Current members will be invited to complete a satisfaction survey later in 2026, helping shape the initiative’s priorities for the coming years. NZCE is also welcoming new organisations as it seeks to broaden collaboration across the global events industry.
