Auckland to Host Asia-Pacific Intelligent Transport Systems Forum in 2027

9th July 2025

Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland has secured the 21st Asia-Pacific Intelligent Transport Systems Forum (AP ITS), set to take place from 5 to 7 May 2027 at the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC).

The forum will attract over 1,000 delegates and is projected to bring NZD $1.27 million in economic benefit to the region.

The successful bid was led by Intelligent Transport Systems New Zealand (ITSNZ) with support from Tātaki Auckland Unlimited’s Auckland Convention Bureau and Tourism New Zealand Business Events, and received high-level backing from Prime Minister Rt Hon Christopher Luxon, Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown, and New Zealand Transport Agency Chair Simon Bridges.

Held under the theme “Navigating Tomorrow: Advancing Intelligent Transport Together,” the forum will highlight the city’s transport innovation—from AI-driven network optimisation and electric ferries to Australasia’s largest all-electric bus depot and the transformative City Rail Link.

Technical site visits will include the University of Auckland Transportation Research Centre, known for pioneering dynamic wireless inductive charging, and ERoad, developers of the national electronic Road User Charges system.

“This is a chance to showcase how policy and technology can shape safer, more sustainable transport,” said Armin Guttke, ITSNZ Chair and President.

“This win reinforces Auckland’s role as a hub for global innovation,” said Ken Pereira, Head of Business Events at Tātaki Auckland Unlimited.
