Cairns & Great Barrier Reef Launches New Funding to Attract Business Events

1st September 2025

Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef has introduced a new funding programme to secure major business events in Tropical North Queensland over the next four years, with the initiative expected to generate a direct economic impact of $54 million.

The scheme, led by Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ), will support bids from new events attracting at least 150 delegates staying three nights or more.

Eligible international and national events can apply for funding of $10,000 or more for meetings scheduled between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2029.

Tara Bennett, TTNQ General Manager of Partnerships and Events, said: “We’re thrilled our funding partners have recognised the significant value of the business events sector and have supported this strategic investment to drive visitation and economic growth.”

Beyond financial incentives, the convention bureau will continue to provide complimentary support, including venue and accommodation connections, delegate boosting, marketing assistance, and air and ground arrangements for site inspections.

The initiative is supported by Tourism and Events Queensland and Cairns Regional Council, working with Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef to enhance the region’s international competitiveness for conferences and conventions.
