Business Events Sarawak’s (BESarawak) Academia Malaysia Advocacy Programme has positioned the state at the forefront of legacy-focused academic events, with Malaysia’s top universities committing to host conferences designed to deliver long-term societal and economic impact.
The programme introduced Sarawak’s legacy impact framework, demonstrating how academic gatherings can shape public policy, improve community well-being, and advance sustainability.
“Universities want more than just an academic gathering. They want platforms that generate lasting change. As Malaysia’s Legacy Capital for business events, Sarawak delivers on that promise,” said Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak.
A key outcome was universities’ agreement to align future events with Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), embedding legacy principles that enhance research relevance, attract investment, and strengthen institutional reputation.
This ambition is supported by the Legacy Impact Master Action Plan 2023–2025 and the AI.LEGACY Intelligent Impact Management System, enabling precise measurement of conference outcomes.
Sarawak’s appeal as a host will be further strengthened by the launch of AirBorneo for improved connectivity and the expansion of the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) to host up to 14,500 delegates, consolidating its position as the destination where research translates into enduring legacies.
