HIV Conference in Brisbane Wins Business Events Award

20th December 2024

The 12th International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2023), hosted at the ASM Global managed Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC), has been named “Conference of the Year” at the Australian Business Events Awards.

The event, which attracted 5,335 delegates from 139 countries, drove significant change, including the removal of co-payments for HIV medications and the decriminalisation of sex work in Queensland.

Professor Charles Gilks, IAS 2023 Chair, said: “To be named ‘Conference of the Year’ is a true honour and a testament to the hard work of the entire BCEC team.”

Ariane Brusselmans, Director of Conferences for the International AIDS Society, said: “The ‘Art Meets Science’ legacy activity introduced in Brisbane has continued successfully and looks set to become a hallmark of future conferences.”

BCEC General Manager Kym Guesdon added: “This accolade underscores our unwavering commitment to hosting world-class events that deliver lasting impact.”
