Liverpool has secured the International Particle Accelerator Conference 2029 (IPAC’29), beating strong international competition to host the prestigious event at ACC Liverpool.
The conference will attract global experts to discuss cutting-edge advances in cancer treatment, clean energy, and fundamental physics research.
The successful bid, led by Professor Carsten Welsch from the University of Liverpool, alongside Club Liverpool and the Liverpool Convention Bureau, marks a homecoming for particle accelerator science.
Liverpool’s legacy in the field began with Professor James Chadwick, who discovered the neutron and helped establish the city as a hub for accelerator research.
Professor Welsch described the win as a “dream come true” and credited strong partnerships with UK institutions like the STFC Daresbury Laboratory for Liverpool’s success.
Mayor Steve Rotheram said: “Liverpool has always been a place that pushes boundaries – and with our unique global heritage in particle accelerator science, a world-leading innovation ecosystem, and world-class cultural credentials, we’re ready to make IPAC29 an unforgettable experience.”
