Gothenburg is taking a decisive leap in reshaping the event planning process with an innovative digital site visit platform, enabling organisers to explore the city remotely through immersive 3D environments and tailored content.
Developed by Göteborg & Co and set to enter production later this year, the platform replaces static presentations with interactive experiences powered by the city’s Digital Twin.
It combines real-time data, scenario-based navigation, and hyper-realistic visuals to offer a more intuitive, efficient, and sustainable way to evaluate Gothenburg for business events.
“Last year we presented a vision of what we aimed for with this project. In less than a year the project has gone from vision to a concept-phase. Soon we will be ready to start the first sprint in producing the tool – with hope to launch it in 2026,” said Fredrik Lundgren, Senior Project Manager at the Gothenburg Convention Bureau.
Prospective organisers will be guided through key venues, hotels, and public spaces, selecting locations of interest and receiving tailored documentation immediately after the tour. The experience is designed to minimise travel needs while enhancing decision-making.
Crucially, the platform allows users to simulate event scenarios – from crowd flow to weather impacts – offering a nuanced understanding of the city’s capacity and infrastructure.
