New Qantas Route Boosts Global Access to Hobart

11th June 2025

Qantas has announced the launch of a new direct service connecting Perth and Hobart, further enhancing international access to Lutruwita/Tasmania.

Commencing on 26 September, the route will operate three times weekly – on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays – allowing streamlined one-stop journeys to Hobart from major Qantas gateways including London, Paris and Rome.

Marnie Craig, CEO of Business Events Tasmania, highlighted the strategic value of the new route, following a strong showing at IMEX Frankfurt. “There is a palpable momentum behind destinations that are both sustainable and story-rich,” she remarked. “Lutruwita/Tasmania embodies both, and this new route will make it significantly easier for global delegates and event planners to consider our destination.”

The announcement coincides with ongoing $350 million infrastructure enhancements at Hobart Airport, including upgrades to facilitate future direct links with key Asian cities.

These investments complement the reinstated Air New Zealand service between Auckland and Hobart, providing efficient one-stop connectivity from the United States and beyond.

Craig underscored the broader trend: “What we’re seeing is growing demand – people want to come to Lutruwita/Tasmania. From our 100% renewable energy grid to our pristine natural environment, we align with the values that international audiences increasingly prioritise.”

The new Qantas route reinforces Tasmania’s rising profile on the global stage, positioning the island as a competitive and compelling host for international business events.
