SPIE Photonex 2023 Wrap Up in Glasgow

2nd April 2024

The Scottish Event Campus (SEC) recently played host to SPIE Photonex 2023, a landmark event organised by the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) from October 24 to 26.

The conference brought together a global community of engineers, scientists, students, and industry leaders to delve into the latest advancements in photonics.

SPIE Photonex 2023 offered a diverse agenda, featuring plenary talks, technical presentations, and research on topics such as biophotonics, quantum technologies, imaging, and nanotechnology, alongside exhibitor demos and networking opportunities.

Aileen Crawford, Head of Glasgow Convention Bureau, Glasgow Life said: “Conferences are vitally important to the city of Glasgow, both economically and for the global reputation of the city. Glasgow hosts over 500 conferences a year, attracting over 120,000 delegates, and they bring an economic impact of £100 million to the local economy through delegate spend. Hosting conferences like SPIE Photonex helps showcase Glasgow and Scotland on the global stage and supports the growing space sector in our country. Glasgow builds more small satellites than any other European city, so being able to bring the world’s best minds to Glasgow supports key sectors and the academic community here”.
