Vienna reinforced its position as a leading international meeting destination in 2024, hosting a record 6,619 congresses and corporate events.

The backbone of this success was international congresses. Though comprising only 12% of all events, they accounted for 73% of the economic impact (€956 million), 67% of overnight stays (1.34 million), and nearly 40% of all participants (260,000).

“International congresses promote intercultural exchange and have a positive impact on science and research. Above all, they are the backbone of Vienna’s meeting industry,” said Norbert Kettner, Managing Director of the Vienna Tourist Board.

Vienna’s reputation as a premier medical congress hub continues to grow, with human medicine events accounting for 43% of overnight stays generated by congresses in 2024.

Congresses tied to the United Nations also played a notable role, reflecting Vienna’s diplomatic influence.

Collaborations with institutions like the Medical University of Vienna and the University of Vienna have secured major upcoming events, including the European Society for Sexual Medicine Congress (February 2025) and the Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (July–August 2025).

The IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (June 2026) will also be hosted in partnership with the Technical University of Vienna.

“Vienna is a diplomatic hub and a leader in medical congresses. These figures show just how important Vienna’s international orientation remains,” Kettner added.
