The Inclusive RCPsych International Congress 2024 in Edinburgh

10th October 2024

From 17-20 June 2024, the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) hosted its annual International Congress at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), drawing over 2,800 delegates from across the globe.

The event created a dynamic environment that fused education, networking, and cultural experiences, underpinned by a focus on inclusivity and accessibility.

RCPsych’s Head of Events, Jessica Letters, said: “It’s about making the event into an attractive enough prospect that cannot easily be replicated online. For us, that means having a cutting edge scientific programme – but weaving other experiences around it, too.”

In addition to the scientific programme, RCPsych introduced a Congress Fringe programme in recent years and built on this even further in 2024. Now, it has become a significant part of the annual Congress.

Featuring mindfulness, art, and yoga, the Fringe offered delegates opportunities to relax while having heavy discussions.

Moreover, the introduction of a plain food station, catering to neurodivergent attendees, was particularly well-received, promoting a more inclusive atmosphere.

EICC’s support was crucial in executing the event, with technical solutions to manage high attendance and flexible spaces that facilitated a seamless experience.

The Congress emphasised a post-pandemic return to face-to-face interaction, reminding attendees of the irreplaceable value of in-person events.
