Ottawa Draws Record Crowd for Global Residency Education Meeting

28th October 2026

More than 1,500 medical educators, physicians and trainees from 30 countries gathered at Rogers Centre Ottawa for the 2026 International Conference on Residency Education, held from 22 to 24 October.

Dedicated exclusively to the postgraduate education that prepares doctors for specialist practice, ICRE used the theme “Thriving in Uncertainty: Residency Education in a World of Change” to examine how training must adapt to an evolving healthcare environment.

The programme combined research, plenary discussions and interactive workshops aimed at strengthening the international community responsible for educating future physicians. This year’s edition recorded the conference’s highest attendance to date.

Catlin Pilon, Conference Specialist at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, said Ottawa consistently attracts the strongest participation among the Canadian cities through which ICRE rotates. With the Royal College headquartered in the capital, the meeting also offered an opportunity to introduce its international community to the organisation’s home city.

“Rogers Centre Ottawa gives us the combination of flexible space and exceptional service that we need,” she said, highlighting the support provided from contracting through to on-site delivery.

Carly Grace, Vice President of Sales at Rogers Centre Ottawa, said the discussions would influence how future generations of doctors are trained, extending the significance of the gathering well beyond its three-day programme.

ICRE concluded a busy month of medical meetings at the venue, following the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress.
