When the new CCH – Congress Center Hamburg reopened its doors two years ago, it immediately showcased a strong commitment to sustainability.

Featuring Hall 1

Hall 1 of the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg is the pride and joy of the entire venue, combining historical architecture with cutting-edge technology and sustainability. The hall, which is Hamburg’s largest auditorium with fixed seating for up to 3,000 attendees, features restored brick walls under historic preservation, providing a unique blend of tradition and modernity.

The seating, designed by the Italian manufacturer Poltrona Frau, offers extensive comfort and is arranged to optimise both visibility and acoustics. The sustainable aspects of the renovation also include new fire prevention systems, eco-friendly heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, and theatrical-style lighting.

The integration of sustainable materials and design extends to the newly installed sound system by L-Acoustics, which utilises the innovative Progressive Ultra-dense Line Source (PULS) technology to deliver exceptional sound quality while significantly reducing environmental impact. This sound system not only enhances auditory experiences but also aligns with the venue’s commitment to sustainability by using up to 60% less material and occupying 30% less space, thus minimising its carbon footprint during transportation (less trucks needed, thereby reducing fuel consumption on the road) and installation.

The acoustic environment in Hall 1 is tailored to deliver superior sound for both speech and music, making it an ideal venue for a diverse range of large-scale events including association conferences, cultural performances, and meetings. The revolutionary sound system, permanently installed as a first in Europe, showcases the hall’s transformation into a leading-edge venue. This system leverages advanced electronic enhancement and Wavefront Sculpture Technology (WST) technology to provide remarkable Sound Pressure Level (SPL) per meter, weight, and surface area, offering an ultra-light and efficient setup that promotes quick deployment and versatile use.

The CCH – Congress Center Hamburg’s adaptation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals is evident through the venue’s operations in hosting events. Business meetings organised there fall straight under this umbrella of social and environmental responsibility, ensuring attendees that they leave a positive impact on the planet and society.
