An Enhanced Experience at ICC Sydney

27th October 2022

Now that Australia is back in full swing on the meetings map, venues like the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) have taken the opportunity to strengthen their offerings for in-person events, putting delegates in the centre of their offering.

Words Marc de Faite

Speaking at IMEX America earlier this month, Geoff Donaghy, ICC Sydney CEO, and ASM Global Group Director – Convention Centres (APAC) said: “ICC Sydney’s team is excited to welcome increasing numbers of international delegates to our diverse, dynamic city and unparalleled location. And our clients and their event attendees – who both return 99% satisfaction rates, are reporting extraordinary experiences at our venue. When holding events at ICC Sydney, clients can expect a world-class experience, with access to in-house services that put the delegate first.”

Managed by ASM Global, and located in one of the most celebrated and visited cities in the world, ICC Sydney has expanded its in-house culinary and audio-visual services. It has invested in the development of new client tools to optimise event planning (including Connect Hub, its customisable digital event platform), and worked to broaden partnerships within its Legacy Program, which seeks to reduce the environmental footprint of events while making a positive social impact across the Sydney community.

One of those new tools is also the Interactive Venue Map. Designed to enhance the event-planning experience, the Venue Map is an interactive three-dimensional visual representation of ICC Sydney. By fully digitising the venue’s floor plans and services, planners and visitors can get an immersive glimpse of the facilities before even stepping through ICC Sydney’s doors. It provides video and interactive imagery, as well as 3D floorplans of every level and space across the convention centre, making it easy for both planners and attendees to orient themselves ahead of time. Once downloaded the Venue Map’s user-friendly interface can even be used offline.

ICC Sydney’s culinary services are enhancing attendee experiences with menu selections that celebrate the best regional produce, including native ingredients, connecting visitors to the venue’s unique location.

Meanwhile, in alignment with the ASM Global ACTS worldwide sustainability and equity program, ICC Sydney has elevated its best-practice CSR programme, piloting new avenues for event organisers to create a positive legacy through their events.

Samantha Glass, ICC Sydney’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Communication and Sustainability, was also speaking at IMEX America. She said, “ICC Sydney drives the constant evolution of our premium services. In embodying our More Than a Venue promise, we help to enrich business event experiences while delivering positive change in our communities. ICC Sydney is more than a landmark venue — it is a central part of the community.”

Emma Bowyer, Managing Director & Owner of ICMS Australasia, said that ICC Sydney’s delivery of the International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering 2022, the venue’s first international event since the onset of the pandemic, was outstanding.

“ICC Sydney has been extremely flexible and supportive over the last six years and throughout the pandemic,” stated Ms Bowyer. “No other venue in Sydney is able to cope with such a large international conference and its requirements, including hybrid. Everything is under one roof, with an abundance of accommodation on its doorstep.”
