Angola Makes Its MICE Case at IMEX

1st June 2026

Angola used IMEX Frankfurt 2026 to make a clear statement that the country wants a place on Africa’s business events map.

Following the recent launch of the Angola Convention Bureau, the destination presented its growing meetings strategy, new infrastructure and ambition to support the local events industry through international partnerships, including with ICCA.

ICCA CEO Senthil Gopinath said Angola was “ticking all the boxes”, pointing to government commitment, public-private collaboration, infrastructure development and an engaged local industry. “For ICCA, it is heartwarming to go there, see the destination, and support the vision of the government to grow the sector,” he said.

Angola’s Minister of Tourism, Márcio Daniel, framed the country’s move as part of a wider African momentum in business events, referencing destinations such as South Africa, Rwanda, Kenya and Egypt. “We are following the footsteps of other African countries that have been doing amazing work in terms of MICE,” he said. “If you go to Africa, please visit Angola and meet in Angola.”

Among the key developments highlighted was the future Luanda Convention Palace, expected to open this year, with capacity for up to 3,000 people, including an adaptive theatre, executive room and smaller business centre spaces.

The presentation also introduced Mundo, a major urban and waterfront development in Luanda designed to connect Angola more directly with global markets. The project includes a marina, cruise terminal, retail, office space, hospitality, residential areas and public infrastructure, with phase one already under way.
