BESydney Welcomes NSW Visitor Economy Strategy 2035

5th September 2025

Business Events Sydney (BESydney) has endorsed the NSW Government’s newly released Visitor Economy Strategy 2035, unveiled by Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper.

The roadmap sets ambitious targets to boost annual visitor expenditure to $91 billion and create 150,000 additional jobs by 2035.

A key priority is “Driving Growth Through Events,” underlining the strategic role of business events in the state’s economic and knowledge ecosystem.

BESydney Chair, Professor Mary O’Kane AC, said: “Business events are a multi-billion-dollar global industry and a powerful catalyst for innovation. This Strategy will help BESydney to unlock new potential across the city, particularly with the opening of the Western Sydney International Airport next year.”

CEO Amanda Lampe added: “The large majority of the delegates attending the events we attract are from overseas. Beyond their tourism dollars, they contribute to our knowledge economy – sharing their expertise, entering collaborations, and investing here.”

The Strategy outlines three main focus areas for business events: reinforcing partnerships, promoting opportunities in Western Sydney and regional centres, and prioritising infrastructure development in destinations such as Newcastle and Wollongong.
