The city of Darwin in Australia’s Northern Territory was recently announced as the host destination for the World Conference on Ecological Restoration in 2023.
The Society of Ecological Restoration has members in more than 70 countries and 13 regional chapters worldwide. It advances the science, practice and policy of ecological restoration to sustain biodiversity, improve resilience in a changing climate, and re-establish an ecologically healthy relationship between nature and culture.
Due to attract 800-1200 delegates, the conference was secured as a result of the successful partnership between NT Business Events, Darwin Convention Centre, and local host, the Society of Ecological Restoration Australia. Tourism Australia also supported the bid to bring this event to Australia through its Business Events Bid Fund Program.
Rebecca McCaig, Director of Northern Territory Business Events, spoke about this most recent bid win for the Northern Territory: “We’re confident that the NT’s pristine environment, amazing biodiversity, ecological awareness and ancient cultural connections will assist to enhance the conference outcomes in 2023. We hope that many delegates will take up the opportunity to undertake pre and post conference touring throughout the NT to experience many of these unique elements for themselves.”
The Northern Territory Government recognises the value of business events through the ongoing Northern Territory Business Events Support Fund which is administered by Northern Territory Business Events. It provides support to eligible events which are at the consideration or bidding stage and which align with the Northern Territory’s priority industry sectors. These include land management, agribusiness, renewable energy, minerals, mining and gas, health, education, tourism, space and digital sectors, as well as creative industries and defence.
