The European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) has officially announced that Geneva will host Velo-city 2028, the global conference for cycling advocacy and planning.
Scheduled for 13–16 June 2028, the event will spotlight Geneva’s longstanding commitment to active mobility and its role in fostering cross-border sustainable transport.
With over 60% of its roads already adapted for cycling and an ambitious 2024–2028 Active Mobility Action Plan underway, the canton is setting a European benchmark for integrated, low-carbon transport solutions.
This edition’s theme, “Beyond Borders,” reflects the city’s unique geographic and institutional positioning, as well as the ambitions of the Greater Geneva partnership to triple cycling’s modal share by 2050.
“The theme ‘Beyond Borders’ clearly illustrates Geneva’s desire to be a hub for cross-border cooperation and innovation,” said Pierre Maudet, State Councillor, State of Geneva.
The Léman Express regional rail network, complemented by expanding bike routes and public infrastructure, demonstrates this collaborative momentum.
“This must be a strong signal to our authorities, who will have to put in place a series of strong measures between now and the hosting of the conference in 2028!” – Pro Velo Geneva
