The International AIDS Society (IAS) has announced that the 14th IAS Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2027) will take place in Geneva, from 11 to 15 July 2027, with both in-person and virtual participation expected.
Around 5,000 delegates from more than 130 countries will gather in Switzerland’s global health capital to advance scientific dialogue and action in the HIV response.
From multilateral agencies to local health systems, Geneva is deeply embedded in the history and future of HIV science. The venue, Palexpo Geneva, will host the five-day event, supported by Geneva Tourism & Conventions Foundation and the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG).
“We now have a game-changing toolkit that includes long-acting treatment and prevention options that could end the HIV pandemic,” said IAS President Kenneth Ngure, Co-Chair of IAS 2027. “But for many who need them most, these innovations remain behind a door locked by access barriers and shrinking funding.”
Ngure stressed that IAS 2027 will be an opportunity to not only share scientific breakthroughs but to shape equitable strategies for delivering them. Geneva’s role in global health diplomacy reinforces this ambition.
“Hosting IAS 2027 in Geneva makes perfect sense,” said Local Co-Chair Alexandra Calmy, head of the HIV Unit at HUG. “It offers a platform for renewing partnerships and driving global collaboration forward.”
Switzerland’s HIV response, grounded in human rights and evidence, has led to measurable progress: HIV prevalence remains low, new infections and AIDS-related deaths have declined, and key populations are supported by inclusive policies.
