Gold Coast Convention Centre Commits to Environmental Leadership

13th May 2024

The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) has introduced a comprehensive 5-Year Sustainability Strategy, championing environmental responsibility within the events industry.

Crafted in collaboration with sustainability expert Larissa Rose, the plan aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to significantly reduce the venue’s ecological impact.

Terry Murphy, Executive Manager of Property Operations at GCCEC, said: “We have taken our commitment to responsible operations a step further with the development and implementation of a 5-year plan that sees us educate, act and deliver across multiple areas from internal processes to offering support to clients and visitors to GCCEC.”

Since opening in 2004, GCCEC has embraced sustainability, achieving significant reductions in waste, energy, and water usage, and earning Master certification from EarthCheck.

The new strategy builds on these foundations with goals to enhance renewable energy use, increase recycling, and promote community engagement in sustainability efforts.
