Tokyo has won the bid to host the 2028 World Congress of Philosophy (WCP 2028).
The major gathering is expected to bring 4,000 attendees, including 3,500 international delegates, to the University of Tokyo for eight days of dynamic philosophical exchange.
Organised by the Japan Federation of Philosophical Societies (JFPS), the Congress, first held in 1900, convenes every five years to advance global philosophical dialogue and strengthen academic networks.
Tokyo’s winning bid featured the theme “The Thinkers’ Choice,” spotlighting Japan’s unique philosophical traditions, its extensive academic networks, and the city’s world-class conference facilities.
Key support from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) was instrumental in securing the event, reinforcing Tokyo’s profile as a premier hub for international thought leadership.
JFPS is committed to creating an enriching platform for global engagement, and WCP 2028 is set to highlight Tokyo’s standing in global philosophical discourse.
