The 41st Annual Meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases – ESPID 2023, organized by Kenes Group, has left a lasting legacy by pioneering sustainable practices in professional conferences.
With 3,812 participants from 127 countries, ESPID 2023 introduced an ambitious Sustainability Strategy that aimed to educate and engage delegates and exhibitors on sustainability, aligning with four Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This milestone event addressed key challenges such as waste generation and carbon emissions.
To combat the environmental impact of exhibitions, Kenes Group collaborated with local partners to create a unique waste management strategy, resulting in the donation of 1,672 meals and a significant reduction in single-use plastics.
The conference also tackled the carbon footprint associated with long-distance travel by promoting sustainable transportation options.
Additionally, ESPID 2023 emphasized gender equality, diverse speaker representation, and a paperless approach, showcasing innovation in sustainability measurement through the use of the “Trace by Isla” Sustainability Measurement Platform.
