Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) launched its Destination Legacy Report: A Decade of Transformation at IBTM World, highlighting Sarawak’s rise as a global model for legacy-focused business events.
The report charts Sarawak’s evolution since 2006 into the legacy capital of Malaysia and Borneo, powered by the Legacy Impact Master Action Plan (MAP) 2023–2025, a roadmap embedding measurable impact into event strategy. Now nearing completion, the plan has surpassed expectations in aligning government and industry around long-term outcomes.
“We’ve built a legacy ecosystem and a model that others now look to for inspiration,” said Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak. “Our next step is a new MAP from 2026, powered by data and digital tools.”
Sarawak also hosted the intention ceremony for the Borneo Legacy Declaration, developed at the LEAP Summit, organised by The Iceberg and supported by the Joint Meetings Industry Council.
“Sarawak isn’t just committing to legacy, it’s showing how to deliver it,” said James Latham, Founder of The Iceberg.
Gary Grimmer, Executive Director of GainingEdge, noted: “Sarawak has exceeded our expectations, achieving in two years what many destinations take far longer to realise.”
In December, BESarawak will officially adopt the Borneo Legacy Declaration and launch the BESA programme, engaging 12 ministries to embed legacy thinking across government.
Ten new case studies were also unveiled, using Sarawak’s AI.LEGACY system to showcase the measurable outcomes of its event strategy.
