Two-Thirds of International Meetings Disrupted by Global Conflicts, IAPCO Report Finds

26th May 2025

Global unrest is placing unprecedented strain on the international meetings industry, with nearly 60% of organisers reporting moderate to significant disruption, according to new research led by the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO).

The 2025 Global Socio-Political Impact Survey, conducted in partnership with National PCO Associations and global Strategic Partners, reveals that 25% of respondents had to cancel, postpone, or relocate events due to safety concerns and instability.

“This is not a marginal issue,” said Martin Boyle, CEO of IAPCO. “The current global unrest is affecting organisers, venues, travel, and delegates. It’s compromising our ability to connect people, share knowledge and do business.”

In 2024, IAPCO members delivered nearly 20,000 events worldwide. More than half of respondents reported venue impacts across up to ten locations, with 5.95% citing disruptions at up to twenty.

Financial consequences are escalating: over one in four organisers reported losses up to €50,000, while 14.64% experienced losses exceeding €150,000.

“The results paint a clear picture of an industry under pressure – from logistics and financial viability to stakeholder confidence,” Boyle added. “They highlight the need for adaptability, contingency planning, and above all, collaboration.”

Despite these challenges, IAPCO members remain resilient. Boyle noted that the association’s strong quality assurance processes and international networks position them to navigate volatility.

“IAPCO members are leaning on each other to innovate and support clients through complex conditions. The power of our global community has never been more important,” Boyle concluded.
