Kuching, SarawakThe Asia Pacific Association of Veterinary Parasitology (APAVP) was launched at the 21st International Congress for Tropical Medicine and Malaria (ICTMM) 2024, taking place in Sarawak.
The APAVP, which stems from the legacy of the 22nd Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations (FAVA) Congress 2023 and ICTMM 2024, aims to foster collaboration in the fields of veterinary parasitology, vector-borne diseases, and parasitic zoonosis across Asia.
At the press conference, Datu Dr Adrian Susin Ambud, Director of the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak, said: “DVS Sarawak is eager to collaborate with APAVP on efforts to strengthen disease control, management, and prevention.”
The APAVP is backed by founding sponsor Boehringer Ingelheim, which aims to support research, education, and cross-regional discussions in veterinary parasitology. “This platform brings industry leaders together to set benchmarks for best practices and tackle pressing challenges in parasitic diseases,” said Prof. Frederic Beugnet of Boehringer Ingelheim.
Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) also highlighted the initiative’s role in leaving a convention legacy. CEO Amelia Roziman said: “The formation and launch of the APAVP is a prime example of how achievable and within reach a convention legacy is.”
APAVP’s ambitious plans include public education campaigns, capacity-building initiatives, and policy development to address parasitic diseases across the region, with representatives from 12 countries set to attend the association’s inaugural meeting.
