A Cyberattack Is More Expensive Than a Natural Disaster

2nd October 2024

Bern - THE cyber capital. This is the declared aim of the organisers of the Swiss Cyber Security Days 2023, who were supported by the Bern Convention Bureau in organising the first event in the federal city.

The Swiss Cyber Security Days took place in Bern on 20 and 21 September 2023. An event in the BERNEXPO event hall, where an exchange took place on this exciting and important topic. Unlike other trade fairs, the focus was on ensuring that non-experts also had access to the information. A platform was created for everyone, by everyone. Because as the organiser Nicolas Mayencourt mentioned several times: “The topic concerns everyone. Whether SMEs or large companies.”

Tips for your own cyber security

  1. Keep software up-to-date
  2. Get a password management system
  3. Multiple authentication via SMS or app
  4. Create regular unalterable backups
  5. Always have a backup copy of the data to hand

He and Tom Winter, CEO of BERNEXPO, have set themselves the goal of making Bern the cyber capital.

But why Bern? There are many reasons.

Bern is not only easily accessible and has a top infrastructure, it is also the political centre of Switzerland and home to many embassies and national and international organisations. Thanks to these conditions, embassy representatives were present at the combined trade fair and congress for the first time. This was a huge added value.

Bern is also ideally located in the geographical centre of Switzerland. It is the home of politics and numerous international institutions. The distances are short. Be it travelling by train or plane to the federal capital or the short distances on site. Many things are within walking distance. If you do need to use public transport, guests can travel free of charge with the Bern Ticket.

Finally, the Bern Convention Bureau is a great help when it comes to organising and planning events, trade fairs or congresses. For example, a hotel contingent was made available for the Swiss Cyber Security Days, which made things a lot easier for the participants and event professionals.

In spring 2025, Europe’s second greenest capital will be enriched by another highlight: the new BERNEXPO festival hall will open. This will provide event organisers with a state-of-the-art venue with space for up to 9,000 people.

Are you planning an event in Bern yourself? The Bern Convention Bureau can advise, support and connect you with the right people.
