AI Adoption Accelerates as Associations Confront Readiness Gaps, says ASAE

26th March 2026

ASAE has released its first-ever State of Associations report, offering a data-driven overview of the sector’s current challenges and future direction.

Drawing on pulse polls conducted over the past year, the report examines financial performance, meetings, workforce trends, advocacy and the growing role of artificial intelligence. Its findings point to a sector under pressure but actively adapting its business models, engagement strategies and technology use.

“Associations are foundational to how industries function, how professionals advance, and how society progresses,” said ASAE President and CEO Michelle Mason. “This report reinforces both the resilience of our sector and the urgency of adapting to a rapidly changing environment.”

Among the key findings, nearly 39% of CEOs reported financial decline, while meetings remain the revenue stream most affected by lower attendance, including reduced international participation. At the same time, associations are increasingly pursuing partnerships, diversifying revenue and launching new offerings.

The report also found that AI adoption is accelerating, particularly for content creation, although many organisations still face capability gaps and data privacy concerns. Membership retention and engagement remain a persistent challenge.

“The State of Associations report is designed not only to inform, but to equip leaders with the clarity and confidence needed to navigate what comes next,” Mason added.
