The new addition includes a rooftop banquet area, outdoor terrace, three flexible meeting rooms, and an exhibition and plenary space, contributing an impressive 10,500 square meters of additional floor space. As a result, the Cairns Convention Centre can now accommodate multiple or larger events, with the capacity to host conventions and exhibitions for up to 2,500 guests throughout the venue.

Janet Hamilton, General Manager at Cairns Convention Centre, highlights the enhanced capabilities that come with the expansion. “Conference organizers will now have much greater flexibility when delivering events, thanks to the latest audio-visual technology, laser projectors, and digital lecterns,” explains Hamilton. The new interior boasts an exhibition space for up to 30 display booths and a flat floor plenary lecture area that can comfortably seat nearly 400 people theater-style. Additionally, the space can be divided into two equal rooms. The expansion also includes three new meeting rooms, each capable of accommodating over 130 delegates in theater-style seating or combining into one larger space to host 400 attendees in the same style.

Ms. Hamilton emphasizes that the new Trinity Level embraces the region’s stunning natural views and allows delegates to enjoy the beauty of Cairns from within the convention centre. “The Trinity Room is ideal for gala dinners and large cocktail functions, accommodating up to 500 people,” she adds. “The expansive pre-function space and the outdoor Trinity Terrace offer breathtaking views over the Trinity Inlet This stunning outdoor area is ideal for cocktail functions, lunches or unique events wanting to enjoy Cairns’ beautiful tropical weather.”

With the rising demand for hybrid meetings and online collaborations, the Cairns Convention Centre ensures it remains at the forefront by providing an array of audio-visual equipment to meet even the most demanding presentation needs. “Hybrid meetings and online collaborations are here to stay, and we are well-equipped to simplify even the most complex requirements, supported by an exceptional technical team,” asserts Hamilton. The venue features PTZ cameras across all meeting spaces, offering pan, tilt, and zoom control, while digital lecterns with built-in preview monitors provide presenters with easy access to their presentation notes. Hamilton notes that these lecterns offer comfort and convenience, allowing presenters to control AV features within the room when necessary.

Furthermore, high-resolution laser projectors are available in every room, providing a brilliant and crisp image, capturing even the finest details of presentations. The larger spaces within the center also offer the option of a 15-meter screen with three-projector blend, enabling the simultaneous display of multiple content on an immense surface.

In parallel with these advancements, the Cairns Convention Centre welcomes its new Executive Chef, David Hart, who is dedicated to implementing sustainable food practices. Located in close proximity to the Atherton Tablelands, Great Barrier Reef, and Daintree Rainforest, the centre is blessed with an abundance of local produce with low food miles. Hart’s culinary philosophy revolves around simplicity, freshness, and utilizing the best seasonal produce, resulting in flavorsome tropical dishes. “Endemic native ingredients, tropical fruits, vegetables, fish, beef, dairy, coffee, vanilla, tea – we are definitely spoilt when it comes to the range of choice and the products we can use to create truly unique dishes that best represent our region,” says Mr. Hart.
