Australia’s Northern Territory has won the right to host the 33rd Triennial World Conference of the Associated Country Women of the World, with Darwin set to welcome the international gathering in 2032.
The successful bid was led by Northern Territory Business Events in partnership with the Darwin Convention Centre and the Country Women’s Association of the Northern Territory. Darwin was announced as host at ACWW’s 31st Triennial World Conference in Ottawa in May.
Expected to attract more than 500 delegates, the conference will bring together rural women from across the world to share experiences, discuss policy priorities and amplify issues affecting their communities. Darwin will also host the ACWW Pacific Area Conference in 2027, expected to draw around 200 delegates.
Suzana Bishop, CEO of the Northern Territory Government’s Department of Tourism and Hospitality, called the win “a major achievement for the Northern Territory and a powerful opportunity to welcome rural women from across the globe.”
Founded in 1929, ACWW now spans 82 countries and works to empower rural women through advocacy, education and international collaboration.
ACWW World President Marie Kenny said Darwin offered “a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the start of our second centenary of impact as rural women in action.” Mary Pocock, ACWW Pacific Area President, added that the decision highlights “the strength and leadership of rural women across the Pacific.”
