Destination DC (DDC) has relaunched its “DC is Open” campaign to reassure visitors that Washington, DC remains open and welcoming despite the ongoing federal government shutdown.
“We acknowledge the false perception that when the federal government shuts down, DC does too,” said Elliott L. Ferguson, II, President and CEO of DDC. “Fall is a busy season for convention and leisure travel, so we’re spreading the word that visitors can still enjoy iconic attractions, stay in our incredible hotels, dine in our acclaimed restaurants, and experience theatre, sports, nightlife, arts and cultural events.”
The campaign highlights that most of DC’s attractions remain unaffected, including open-air memorials on the National Mall, the National Gallery of Art, and all Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo, which will remain open through 11 October. Cultural venues such as the Phillips Collection, Folger Shakespeare Library, and Arena Stage continue their regular programming.
The “DC is Open” message is being amplified across DDC’s digital and social media channels, supported by paid search, targeted advertising, and the hashtag #DCisOpen. Travellers can also explore current listings of open attractions, special offers, and events at washington.org/dcisopen.
