The Events Industry Council (EIC) and the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) have unveiled a strategic collaboration aimed at deepening alignment in sustainability, advocacy, and economic research.
Announced at IMEX Frankfurt, the alliance will see both bodies join forces to accelerate environmental responsibility through the integration of JMIC’s Net Zero Carbon Events initiative and EIC’s Sustainable Event Standards. The combined effort is designed to offer a unified framework for industry-wide action on climate and social impact.
Equally important is the commitment to coordinated global advocacy, with the Councils set to present a stronger, unified voice on policy issues affecting travel, carbon emissions, and geopolitical risk.
By aligning messaging and outreach, the partnership seeks to reinforce the essential role of business events in fostering innovation and economic resilience.
A cornerstone of the agreement is the commissioning of the 2026 Economic Significance of Business Events Industrystudy, in partnership with Oxford Economics.
This updated research will offer critical data on the sector’s global contribution and inform both governmental and private-sector strategies.
“This partnership reflects a shared commitment to amplifying the value and voice of business events worldwide,” said Amy Calvert, CEO of EIC. James Rees, President of JMIC, added, “It’s a moment of strategic consolidation—one that will equip our industry to navigate uncertainty with clarity and cohesion.”
