Sarawak has secured hosting rights for the 11th Asia Pacific Regional Conference 2028 (APRC 2028) of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, set for 23–26 March 2028 in Kuching to coincide with World Tuberculosis Day.
Expected to welcome more than 1,000 delegates and generate RM8.2 million in total economic impact, APRC 2028 will be hosted in Borneo for the first time, and in Malaysia for only the second time since Kuala Lumpur in 2007.
The conference will address urgent regional challenges in tuberculosis and lung health, from drug-resistant strains and delayed diagnosis to stigma, treatment adherence and unequal access to care. It will convene government, academia, associations, industry and communities around practical solutions in prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
“APRC 2028 directly supports Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030, where healthcare is not only about treatment, but about equity and inclusion,” said The Honourable Datuk Amar Prof. Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak.
Organised by the Malaysian Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis with regional health and academic partners, and supported by the Sarawak Government and Business Events Sarawak, APRC 2028 reinforces the state’s growing profile as a legacy-driven business events destination.
