Destination Canada Unveils Sustainability Storybook at ASAE Annual Meeting

27th August 2024

Destination Canada’s Business Events team has launched “Canada’s Sustainability Storybook,” the latest addition to its Canadian Business Events Sustainability Plan.

Presented at the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) annual meeting, where Destination Canada served as the sustainability partner, this innovative resource showcases sustainable initiatives from communities across Canada that regularly host business events.

The storybook aims to inspire and provide turnkey solutions for business events planners, sustainability professionals, and host destinations worldwide.

At the ASAE expo, life-sized displays of these initiatives were featured within the Sustainability Story Pavilion, reaching over 5,000 global delegates.

Virginie De Visscher, Executive Director of Business Events at Destination Canada, said: “Our goal is to constantly keep Canada’s Business Events Sustainability Plan relevant by sharing tools and resources to our industry partners and clients.”

Originally launched in 2022, the award-winning Canadian Business Events Sustainability Plan was the first of its kind, designed to enhance economic, socio-cultural, and environmental sustainability in business events. The plan aligns with global goals such as achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in line with the Paris Agreement.

The storybook features examples like upcycled event furniture in Ottawa, Indigenous fashion showcases in Banff, and local pop-up markets in Winnipeg, each aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
