In a landmark move to elevate India’s stature in the global business events landscape, the Government of Maharashtra has officially launched the Maharashtra Convention Bureau (MCB) at IMEX Frankfurt.
This marks the country’s first state-driven initiative aimed exclusively at positioning a region as a premier destination for international conventions and exhibitions.
Headquartered in Mumbai, India’s commercial capital, the Bureau is tasked with attracting world-class meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions to the state.
The initiative aligns with Maharashtra’s Tourism Policy 2024, reinforcing business events tourism as a strategic pillar in boosting the visitor economy.
The announcement was led by Shri Indranil Naik, Minister of State for Tourism, accompanied by senior officials including Principal Secretary Shri Atul Patne and Dr. B.N. Patil, Director, Directorate of Tourism.
“With MCB, we’re unlocking Maharashtra’s full potential as a business events powerhouse—fostering innovation, economic growth, and global exchange,” said Minister Naik.
Leveraging world-class venues such as the Jio World Convention Centre and backed by international-standard infrastructure, the Bureau aims to transform cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and Nagpur into connected meetings hubs.
The move has already attracted major international events including the International Baccalaureate Congress 2026, ICANN Annual Conference, and the International Olympiad on Astronomy & Astrophysics 2025.
Dr. Senthil Gopinath, CEO of ICCA, praised the development as “a transformative milestone for India’s business events industry,” setting a benchmark for other regions across the country.
