Ottawa Tourism has launched a comprehensive Anti-Human Trafficking Action Plan, reinforcing the city’s commitment to safety, ethics, and responsible tourism.
Partnering with Meeting Professionals Against Human Trafficking (MPAHT), Voice Found, and The Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking, the initiative focuses on awareness, education, and prevention to protect visitors, event attendees, and residents.
As part of this strategy, Ottawa Tourism is expanding its digital resources to provide essential information to tourism professionals, event organisers, and the public.
Specialised training sessions are being offered in collaboration with industry experts to equip tourism and hospitality staff with the knowledge to recognise and prevent trafficking.
Additionally, a destination-wide audit is underway to assess and strengthen anti-trafficking policies across Ottawa’s tourism sector.
Further solidifying its commitment, Ottawa Tourism has become an official partner of The Code (The Tourism Child-Protection Code of Conduct), setting a new standard for ethical tourism and encouraging industry-wide action.
“The travel and events industry has a duty to protect the vulnerable. Our commitment to education, collaboration, and action ensures Ottawa is a safe and conscientious destination,” says Lesley Pincombe, VP, Meetings & Major Events, Ottawa Tourism.
