Tokyo Wins Two Major International Scientific Conferences for 2028

8th October 2025

Tokyo has reinforced its status as a world-class hub for scientific and academic gatherings, having secured the winning bids to host two major global conferences in 2028, the 19th International Particle Accelerator Conference (IPAC’28) and the Goldschmidt Conference.

The International Particle Accelerator Conference (IPAC’28) will take place from 4–9 June 2028 at the Tokyo International Forum, welcoming an estimated 1,500 experts from more than 16 countries and regions. This will mark the first time the conference is held in Tokyo and the first return to Japan since the inaugural edition in Kyoto in 2010.

Just a month later, from 9–14 July 2028, the Tokyo International Forum will once again set the stage – this time for the Goldschmidt Conference, the annual meeting of the Geochemical Society and the European Association of Geochemistry. Expected to attract over 4,200 participants from around the world, the event serves as the leading forum for geochemistry and related disciplines. While Japan has previously hosted the conference in Kurashiki and Yokohama, this will be the first time Goldschmidt is held in Tokyo.

Both successful bids were supported by the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB), whose financial and in-kind assistance played a crucial role.

“Tokyo was selected for its excellent access, world-class convention infrastructure, and enduring international appeal,” the Business Events Tokyo team stated, adding that they are “thrilled to support these landmark conferences through every stage of planning and delivery.”
